5G WiFi Wave 2 solutions target cloud WLAN markets

A family of 5G WiFi Wave 2 solutions, designed to deliver the quality, reliability and capacity required for all segments of the enterprise and cloud WLAN markets, has been released by Broadcom. The solutions include the BCM43465, a 4x4 11ac MU-MIMO, and the BCM43525, a 3x3 11ac MU-MIMO.

Broadcom has announced that SK Telecom, Korea's largest telecommunications company, has selected Broadcom's latest small cell SoC devices with carrier aggregation technology to enhance its high-speed 4G LTE services. By leveraging Broadcom's advanced small cell SoC features, SK Telecom can significantly increase overall throughput and extend network coverage and capacity.

Small cell SoCs enhance 4G LTE wireless broadband services

KT (formerly Korea Telecom), a Korean telecomms and internet company, has successfully deployed Broadcom's small cell SoC devices to enhance its high speed 4G LTE wireless broadband services. KT completed deployment and verification of its Broadcom-enabled small cells for commercial outdoor environments this quarter and plans to expand services to indoor residential locations in the second quarter of 2015.

A 5G WiFi 2x2 MIMO combo chip, which is claimed to be the industry’s first with Real Simultaneous Dual Band (RSDB) support for mobile devices, has been released by Broadcom. The BCM4359 enables devices to transmit and receive over two bands simultaneously, delivering an improved experience to highly connected, multi-tasking users.

SoCs boost existing microwave backhaul infrastructure
Broadcom has introduced two SoC devices to provide mobile access carriers with industry-leading capacity and spectral efficiency to boost existing microwave backhaul infrastructure. The SoCs are the first to deliver 5Gb/s speeds and deliver a fourfold increase in spectral efficiency of 48bps/Hz. Broadcom will showcase its innovations for the mobile and carrier ecosystem at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 2nd to 5th March.

The platform offers OEMs more features, including GPS with sensor hub processing and wireless charging support. Denon Electronics has selected the Broadcom high-end audio platform to power a line of HEOS Google Cast Ready multi-room wireless speakers. Google Cast allows users to cast their favourite music apps via any Android or iOS mobile device and their home WiFi network. Supporting 2.5G and 5G Ethernet speeds, the BCM8486X series of PHYs has been released by Broadcom. Without disrupting existing cabling infrastructure, the next-gen devices provide a faster data rate over Gigabit Ethernet. To enable developers to rapidly prototype ideas and concepts for IoT devices and applications, Broadcom has introduced a development kit. The Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) Sense kit is an all-in-one IoT prototyping kit that includes the company's Bluetooth Smart chip, five MEMS and a software stack that is Bluetooth 4.1 compatible.

WiFi technology utilised for smartphone-controlled thermostat

Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED), WiFi technology from Boradcom, has been selected by Netatmo for it's smartphone-controlled thermostat. Using the WICED WiFi technology, the thermostat syncs with a free smartphone app which provides users with control of home temperatures.
