Touchscreen with 25mm hover distance & 50% reduced touch power

Atmel has launched its next-gen maXTouch U family, bringing the world’s first capacitive touchscreen solution to aid display design. OEMs will no longer have to worry about touch and display performance when selecting thinner stacks such as on-cell, hybrid in-cell, full in-cell touchscreens utilising very thin film and glass substrates.

MCUs feature up to 384KB of multi-port SRAM memory

Next-gen automotive technologies showcased at CES 2015

At CES 2015, which takes place from 6th to 9th January in Las Vegas, Atmel will be showcasing its next-gen automotive technology demonstrator, AvantCar 2.0. The fully functional center console uses Atmel technologies to demonstrate a connected car concept, showcasing car access, car networking, MCUs, audio streaming over-Ethernet-AVB and CryptoAuthentication products.

Platform targets touch-enabled UIs for wearables

Designed for touch-enabled UIs, the QTouch Surface platform has been released by Atmel. Built on the QTouch capacitive touch button sensing technology, the platform features an on-chip peripheral touch controller, enabling higher performance capacitive touch on Atmel MCUs. The platform consumes less than 4µA, making it suitable for wearables and other battery-powered applications that require a capacitive touch user interface.

Digital sensors deliver high temperature accuracy

Claimed to be the industry’s first high-precision digital temperature sensors with the widest Vcc range, from 1.7 to 5.5V, Atmel has announced the AT30TS74, AT30TS75A, AT30TS750A, AT30TSE752A, AT30TSE754A and AT30TSE758A. Available with integrated nonvolatile registers and serial EEPROM, the family delivers high temperature accuracy and fast I2C bus communication speeds for consumer, industrial, computer, and medical applications.

WiFi module delivers a secure plug & play IoT solution

A fully integrated FCC-certified WiFi module with a standalone MCU and hardware security from a single source, which is claimed to be an industry first, has been released by Atmel. Alongside the company’s SMART SAM D21 ARM Cortex M0+-based MCU and ATECC108A optimised CryptoAuthentication engine, the SmartConnect SAM W25 module features Atmel’s recently announced 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n WiFi WINC1500.

Co-operation to produce animal ID LF transponders

Atmel and SMARTRAC have jointly announced their co-operation to market LF transponders and inlays for animal identification globally. The Atmel ATA5575M2 RFID IC supports ISO11784 and ISO11785 standards, using the FDX-A and FDX-B formats for animal identification. It is the only RFID solution available that supports FDX-A, the animal identification standard using full duplex 125KHz technology with FSK modulation.

LIN family enables in-vehicle networking

CAN transceivers improve connectivity & save power

Atmel will target the industrial and automotive markets with its recently-introduced family of CAN transceivers. Providing an interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus, Atmel’s ATA6560 and ATA6561 support the new CAN FD standard with data rates of up to 5Mb/s.

Dual core MCUs enable scalability for smart metering

Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial metering applications, the SAM4C32, SAM4CMS32 and SAM4CMP32 dual core MCUs have been introduced by Atmel. The MCUs, which are pin-to-pin compatible with existing 512KB and 1MB devices in the Atmel SMART portfolio, feature 2MB of cache-enabled dual-bank flash and enable scalability and design-reuse for next-gen smart metering platforms.
