European RED certification for C-V2X technology received
Ficosa has reportedly become the first global manufacturer to receive European RED certification for its CarCom platform with Cellular-V2X technology. This platform integrates Qualcomm’s latest technology and has been certified in collaboration with Dekra Laboratories.
Development of design for additive manufacturing applications
The European Space Agency (ESA) has selected Siemens Digital Industries Software to develop aerospace design applications for metal additive manufacturing. The applications will leverage Siemens’ end-to-end software solution for industrial additive manufacturing that combines generative engineering, topology optimisation, predictive analytics, process simulation, build preparation and production execution.

According to Toshiba Electronics Europe, the Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation’s Visconti 4 image recognition processor was a key component in the driver assistance systems of the Toyota vehicles that recorded industry-leading scores in the 2018 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP), the government program that assesses the road safety of new vehicles.
Element gains input into standards for IoT technologies
Element Materials Technology has gained membership of ETSI, giving the Group the opportunity to input directly into the standards for wireless and IoT technologies for which it tests. ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) supports the timely development, ratification and testing of globally applicable standards for ICT enabled systems.

Doubles energy density of solid-state batteries
At the European Electric Vehicle Batteries Summit, imec and partner in EnergyVille, announced a solid-state Li-metal battery cell with an unsurpassed energy density of 400 Wh/litre at a charging speed of 0.5C (2 hours). Imec have also started to upscale the materials and processes in a pilot line for fabrication of solid-state pouch cells at the EnergyVille Campus in Genk and is set-up in collaboration with the University of Hasselt.
Commercial-scale production of bio-based plastic achieved
Neste and LyondellBasell have announced the first parallel production of bio-based polypropylene and bio-based low-density polyethylene at a commercial scale. The joint project used Neste’s renewable hydrocarbons derived from sustainable bio-based raw materials, such as waste and residue oils.
