Certification programme to ensure quality of connected IoT devices
The LoRa Alliance has announced that it has significantly expanded its LoRaWAN certification programme. The enhanced certification testing suite meets the requirements of LoRaWAN network operators and assures end users that certified devices have the required quality and range to work on any network out of the box.
u-blox wins IoT Evolution Industrial IoT Product of the Year Award
u-blox has announced that its NINA-multiradio and gateway module series with concurrent WiFi and dual-mode Bluetooth connectivity has received a 2019 IoT Evolution Industrial IoT Product of the Year Award from IoT Evolution World, the leading magazine and Web site covering IoT technologies.
Return of the IoT Botnet: exposing the soft underbelly of IoT devices
Like the Fast and Furious movies, IoT botnets and cyber attacks just keep coming. The most recent attack, the Silex botnet, is particularly nasty. It doesn’t use devices to create DDoS attacks or attempt to steal personal data. As ZDNet explained in its June article about the attack, the new malware simply deletes the software from the device rendering it useless, or 'bricking' the device. oneM2M certification lays base for global IoT ecosystem
Immediate availability of its oneM2M certification programme has been announced by Global Certification Forum (GCF). This follows on from an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing earlier this year with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA).
How can we enable timely realisation of smart cities?
Smart cities are expected to be commonplace within the next ten years, according to a new poll by Wi-SUN Alliance, a global ecosystem of member companies seeking to accelerate the implementation of open standards-based Field Area Networks (FAN) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Wi-Fi 6 front-end module comes in 3x3 mm form factor
The SKY85726-11 front end module (FEM) from Skyworks Solutions is in stock at Mouser Electronics. The 5GHz WLAN device is ideal for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)-based Internet of Things (IoT) systems, offering a fully integrated solution in a compact 3 × 3 mm form factor.
Have we peaked when it comes to IoT?
At the recent IoT Expo show, held in London Electronic Specifier’s Anna Flockett got the chance to catch up with Gemalto’s M2M Manager, Neil Bosworth who is involved with IoT projects from start to finish. Having been in the industry for a number of years, specifically with Gemalto for nine years Bosworth is an expert in this area and has been on the front line of the M2M industry since 2006.
Overcoming IoT latency, security and scalability issues
The Hardware Pioneers’ gatherings are becoming a vital knowledge source for those involved in Internet of Things (IoT) endeavours. Their latest seminar, hosted in Central London in May, was entitled ‘Building Smarter IoT Products at the Edge’. By Mark Patrick, Mouser Electronics
IoT drives digital transformation at IoT World Forum
IoT is changing the business playing field, creating opportunities for new sources of revenue, smarter interactions with customers, and greater efficiencies. As the IoT spreads, the implications for business model innovation are huge. Filling out well-known frameworks and streamlining established business models won’t be enough.
Battery-powered all-in-one smart home alarm
It has been announced that Nordic Semiconductor's nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP) LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular IoT module is being employed to provide LTE-M cellular wireless connectivity in the formerly WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy-only, battery-powered 'Point' smart home alarm developed by Swedish startup Minut.
