Provider of smart wireless lighting control technologies, Casambi has announced the introduction of a new Class 2 embedded Bluetooth 4.0 module that is designed for LED lighting control applications, light fixtures and LED bulbs. The CBM-002A/B provides an upgrade on the company’s CBM-001 module, as the new device integrates a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor, along with a 2.4GHz Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transceiver, and two antenna options.
The new module is available in two variants: the CBM-002A has a chip antenna, whereas the CBM-002B comes with a pin antenna. The CBM-002A is 100% compatible and is a drop-in replacement for the CBM-001 module, while the CBM-002B offers pin compatibility with the previous device. Different external components such as motion detectors, ambient light sensors and PWM circuits, can be interfaced with the module via its 12 general-purpose I/O pins.
The module is also pre-programmed with Casambi’s proprietary firmware, which can be updated Over-The-Air (OTA) and makes it compatible with other Casambi-enabled devices. The CBM-002A/B can be controlled wirelessly up to a range of approximately 50m via the Casambi mobile app running on smart consumer devices, such as smartphones and tablets that use the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol.
As a Casambi BLE product, the module can be used as part of a wider lighting network, which can be expanded over time. Devices form automatically a self-healing and self-organising wireless mesh network, so that a large number of lighting fixtures can be controlled from any point without the requirement for an external dedicated gateway or connection to a WiFi network.

The CBM-002A/B module has a very small form factor with dimensions of 12.7x20.0x2.85mm and can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical position, making it highly versatile for many projects with differing form factors. The module operates from a 2.5-3.6V power supply, drawing current of only 7mA, and has an operating temperature range of -25 to +85°C.
In addition, the CBM-002A/B module also meets RED (EU), FCC (USA) and ISED (Canada) requirements, making it easy for lighting system developers to quickly develop solutions based on these pre-programmed and pre-approved BLE modules.
