Low noise linear driver targets small cells

Provider of high performance MMICs, Guerrilla RF, has introduced GRF4014, a new addition to the company’s growing list of broadband, low-noise linear drivers. The amplifier is targeted at small cells, cellular boosters and other broadband, high-performance applications offering broadband frequency coverage with a minimal number of external components. It is offered in an ultra-small 1.5x1.5mm DFN-6 package, thus sharing a common pin out with numerous other Guerrilla RF devices including the GRF400X and GRF201X device families.

“Guerrilla RF is proud to offer this new amplifier which addresses an industry need for a cost-effective, broadband driver delivering outstanding RF performance with low-power consumption over a wide frequency range,” said Alan Ake, Vice President of applications and technical marketing at Guerrilla RF. “The device’s flexible biasing capability allows for high levels of reuse with optimal efficiency over a wide range of linearity requirements. Simple matching, along with the 1.5mm DFN-6 package, results in a compact application footprint.”

According to Research and Markets, the overall wireless network infrastructure market will witness tremendous growth over the coming years. At a compound annual growth rate of over five percent, the market will account for over $104bn in annual spending by the end of 2020.

The GRF4014 can be operated over a range of Vdd from 3.0-8.0V, and Iddq can be controlled independently from Vdd thus allowing the device efficiency to optimised for a given application requirement. The device can cover 1,700-3,800MHz with a single set of external components with gain: 17.0dB, OP1dB: 24.8dBm, Noise Figure: 0.8dB at 2,500MHz at 5.0V and 65mA. Biased at 8.0V and 100mA, the device OP1dB is greater than 28dBm with NF and gain essentially unchanged from their 5.0V values.
