7Layers decides to put an end to the mystery of identifying the correct product features of a wireless device that supports GSM, UMTS or LTE technology.
How did this come about?
Some time ago we heard the following story: A terminal manufacturer had developed a highly sophisticated mobile phone, using their best engineers on the project and a module from a leading provider. However, when going into testing the product failed without any apparent reason. Time to market was becoming a problem and, together with some test experts, they altered the basic feature information and changed the test plan and configuration settings of the test system. After a lot of last minute troubleshooting, the product was finally ready for market launch. But was it really? Then why did it fail the initial testing? Was the test equipment at fault? Was the original sample wrong? Will the product really fulfill the requirements specified by the network operator? How could one make sure that such delays and uncertainties were not going to happen again?

Does that sound familiar to you?
— Have you ever wondered which features your wireless device really supports?
— Are you always sure which feature changes have been introduced with the latest
software revision?
— Do you know the exact configuration of your network simulator?
— As a network operator are you satisfied that the device supplied is in accordance with
your specifications?

“If you are confronted with questions like this, the brand new and unique “InterLab® Feature Explorer”, developed by 7Layers, is the answer for you”, declares Carsten Kuhfuss, product manager at 7Layers, and he explains why: “The “InterLab® Feature Explorer” discovers and identifies all relevant PICS/PIXIT information that is implemented in wireless devices supporting GSM, UMTS, or LTE technologies. Based on this information, our new tool automatically generates an exact product description. Developers, testers, network operators and other interested parties can now rely on up-to-date and correct information about what a product is really able to do!”
With the help of the “InterLab® Feature Explorer” more than 400 important product features and parameters can be extracted from a wireless device in a reliable, reproducible and efficient way. Amongst the large number of possible applications, the “InterLab® Feature Explorer” can be used for cases such as:
— Identifying the correct feature information
— Deriving detailed PICS/PIXIT information
— Supporting test system configuration
— Automating product version comparisons
— Pre- and post-checking product capabilities
