At a launch event in London, TomTom simultaneously introduced a range of new products for the automotive and fitness markets. Speaking at the event Corinne Vigreux, co-founder and Managing Director, TomTom Consumer said: “We want to kick-off the next 25 years of TomTom by launching the largest number of products in our history.”

Among these was the TomTom CURFER performance tracker for cars. Plug this into a vehicle and read out data on a connected phone to improve driving performance or help save on fuel. From cornering G-force to acceleration and braking efficiency, the TomTom CURFER guides drivers while gamifying the experience with rewards and social sharing.

The TomTom CURFER could actually help save drivers money on fuel, brakes and tyre costs by helping them drive more efficiently. It'll even let drivers find the car from their phone’s map when they are out.

Other metrics that can be tracked include the car’s battery voltage, oil temperature and engine load. By using a red alert for any issues with these levels, drivers can relax the rest of the time knowing the car is running as it should.

Vigreux commented: “We want people everywhere to drive smarter, saving money and reducing their impact on the environment. I like to think of the TomTom CURFER as a translator between the driver and their car - helping people to make better decisions about their driving style in a really fun and engaging way.”

The TomTom CURFER connects to a car via its OBD (On Board Diagnostics) port which can be found on most cars made after 2011. This then connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth so the CURFER app can display all the data. The TomTom CURFER is available to pre-order now in the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands via the TomTom website. RRP is £59.99.

When you say TomTom, most people will think of satellite navigation, and while TomTom has diversified into other sectors since its formation, the sat-nav is still very much part of its portfolio and the event also introduced TomTom's next generation GO sat-nav. Thanks to WiFi, all updates are automatic so no more wires or computers are needed. The real time, traffic information and Lifetime Services are a bonus at no additional cost. There’s also voice recognition using developed AI platforms like Siri for accurate responses.

The new TomTom GO sat-navs read out text messages, allow hands-free calling and are compatible with personal assistants like Apple’s Siri, Google Now or Microsoft’s Cortana. Anything can be search for with the user’s voice, and the TomTom GO can read out messages on arrival or make and take calls via voice control.

The latest TomTom GO sat-navs are also able to learn a driver’s habits. That means they are able to predict a destination meaning the driver just gets in and goes. So for a regular commute everything will happen automatically including avoiding traffic from the outset. Plus, if the driver does come up to a tailback, or speed camera, the TomTom GO will sound an alert to enable you to slow down in time.

Vigreux commented: “The new TomTom GO sat-navs represent our focus on making technology so easy to use that anybody can benefit from it. WiFi updates, smartphone integration, predicting your destination – even Lifetime services. Each element works towards removing the headaches associated with driving, and allows people everywhere to relax and enjoy the journey ahead.”

The updates, which take advantage of that new WiFi feature, include Lifetime TomTom Traffic, Lifetime Maps and Lifetime Speed Camera alerts.

The TomTom GO devices come in four versions. The top end TomTom GO 5200 and 6200, as the titles suggest, come in 5” and 6” variants respectively and both feature SIMs for live updates. The more affordable TomTom GO 520 and 620, also in those two screen sizes, require a smartphone connection for live alerts on things like traffic and speed cameras.

The new TomTom GO satnavs will be available in September at selected retailers including Halfords and on the TomTom website. Prices start at £209.99 for the GO 520 (with worldwide maps). The top of the range GO 6200 is priced £339.99.

The TomTom Adventurer is a new GPS Outdoor Watch built to elevate your outdoor activities with dedicated sports modes for hiking, trail running, skiing and snowboarding. TomTom Adventurer is equipped with a built-in heart rate monitor, barometer, compass and automatic lift detection for snow sports. It also comes with GPS tracking and route exploration.

TomTom Adventurer features automatic lift detection and users can see key stats after each time down the slopes. The TomTom Adventurer can provide live stats including speed, altitude, descent and gradient. For trail runners and hikers, route exploration, elevation metrics and the added security of an extended battery life means new mountainous paths can be explored confidently.

“We’re excited to launch TomTom Adventurer, an easy to use GPS Outdoor Watch designed to bring out the explorer in us all,” said Vigreux. “We believe anyone who loves the outdoors deserves to have access to high end technology typically reserved for the extreme mountain man. Now, with TomTom Adventurer everyone can start tracking their activities whenever they are exploring new heights.”

Along with tracking your outdoor activities, TomTom Adventurer also comes with 24/7 activity tracking and every run, swim, cycle or gym session can be tracked in dedicated sports modes. You can track your pulse using the built-in heart rate monitor, while the integrated music player can make your activities even more enjoyable.

TomTom Adventurer will be available in October and costs £249.99.

TomTom has also released two new GPS Sports Watch ranges. Building on TomTom’s heritage in navigation and mapping, TomTom Spark 3 (below) and Runner 3 watches now come equipped with Route Exploration. These GPS Sports Watches are launching with new, slimmer, sleeker straps in a range of colours to wear every day, while still ready to take on even the tough workouts.

Route Exploration allows you to explore new trails without ever needing to take the same route twice. You can upload unexplored routes via the MySports website on to your watch. Additionally, every time you hit the road your GPS trace is displayed on the GPS Sports Watch allowing you to find your way back to the start. By combining the integrated compass and GPS information anyone can run with the confidence of knowing which path to take and how to get back. Routes are easily shared with friends after a run - challenging all to explore more.

“We’re proud to launch the TomTom Spark 3 and Runner 3 now with Route Exploration, building on our years of experience in mapping and navigation,” said Vigreux. “Route Exploration is more than just a way to get back home safer. It inspires runners to get even more out of their training, increase distance confidently and explore exciting, new routes.”

Route Exploration was added as a key feature based on consumer feedback, showing that runners want to explore new routes, but fear they may lose their way.

The GPS Sport Watches count your steps 24/7, while every run, swim, cycle or gym session can be tracked in dedicated sports modes. With theMySports companion app you can dive deeper into your stats, set goals and track your progress over time to keep you motivated.

TomTom Spark 3 Cardio + Music and Runner 3 Cardio + Music are available for pre-order now on www.tomtom.com and cost £219.99. The full range will be available in stores in October.

The TomTom Touch (below) combines body composition analysis with steps, sleep and all day heart rate tracking, right from the wrist. With the push of a button, TomTom Touch measures the percentage of body fat and muscle mass in your body to finally answer the question: Is what I’m doing, doing anything for me?

Body composition gives you a good understanding of your fitness level and how it’s changing over time. Until now, this metric has been available with dedicated scales or expensive technology. The launch of TomTom Touch now makes it more accessible to a broader audience.

“We’re excited to give people fitness information they can really use with TomTom Touch,” said Vigreux. “We all know that weight doesn’t tell the whole story. Two people with the same weight can have completely different levels of muscle and fat in their body. TomTom Touch gives more clarity by tracking body composition, so you can really tell whether your efforts are having any effect.”

TomTom Touch is designed to be worn 24-7 and includes everything you’d expect from the best fitness trackers available today. Tracking steps, sleep, all day heart rate, calories burned, and it also comes equipped with a sports mode for running, cycling or going to the gym. You can also stay connected with smartphone notifications.

It’s easy to dive into your stats, view progress and share achievements with friends via the TomTom MySports companion app on your smartphone. Performance statistics and graphs help you make sense of your activities and the effect they have on your body composition over time.

TomTom Touch is available for pre-order from today on www.tomtom.com/fitness and costs £129.99. The full range will be available in October at John Lewis, Currys, PC World, Argos and Boots.

TomTom has created what it claims to be the world’s first scooter smartphone connected sat-nav called TomTom VIO. The circular glove friendly touchscreen device acts as an extension to a connected smartphone, which uses the app as the brains which eliminates the need to take the phone out of the pocket while riding.

The weather-proof display unit offers turn-by-turn navigation both visually and audibly via a Bluetooth helmet audio system. When a call comes in, the display will show a photo of who it is so the rider can take it via the headset while directions remain on the TomTom VIO display.

TomTom’s speed camera warning system is built-in. TomTom VIO’s speed display changes colour to red, warning riders if they are going too fast, and then back to the original colour scheme when travelling within the limit. That means even without directly looking at the VIO the rider is acutely aware of their current speed.

Design detailing continues inside and out on the TomTom VIO thanks to snap-on silicon covers available in six different colours – well suited for matching up with the scooter. Then, to keep consistency, even the maps can be set to the same colour using one simple touch in the app.

Vigreux said: “The innovative new TomTom VIO is game changer for scooter riders. Not only will it speed up the commute, but gone are the days of fiddling with your mobile at the traffic lights, or wondering who is calling as you negotiate the traffic. For the first time, riders can explore the urban jungle safely, and confidently, and in style.”

The TomTom VIO is available now from Halfords and Amazon and on the TomTom website, priced £149.99.
