A long-time executive member of the alliance, Texas Instruments' PLC (Power Line Communication) reference designs have been certified by the G3-PLC Alliance. This allows smart grid technology providers to be assured of compliance and interoperability when they choose TI’s system solution for G3-PLC applications.

The reference designs for meter end points (PEER) and PLC data concentrators (PANC) have achieved G3-PLC Alliance platform certification for the CENELEC A frequency band. The former has also achieved ARIB frequency band certification.

TI’s flexible PLC modem solutions are based on proprietary SOM hardware designs that incorporate all necessary PLC modem circuitry and a a PLC docking station which enables the modem to be coupled to the AC mains. Enabling the rapid prototyping of PLC networks, the small form factor modules are available separately so that developers can customise systems to meet the needs of individual smart grid customers.

Utilising TI’s C2000 TMS320F28PLC84 MCU and AFE031 PLC AFE, the TMDSPLCKITV4-CEN kit supports CENELEC A (35-91kHz) or CENELEC B (98-122kHz) frequency bands in Europe. The TMDSPLCKITV4-ARIB kit supports the ARIB frequency band (154-403kHz) in Japan using TI’s C2000 F28M35H52 MCU and AFE032 PLC AFE. Easily upgradable to support the ARIB frequency band, the TMDSDC3359 data concentrator EVM supports the CENELEC A frequency in its standard configuration.

The TMDSPLCKITV4 kit for ARIB and CENELEC bands can be purchased for $499, while the TMDSDC3359 kit can is available for $699.
