Exploring the feasibility of 5G by 2022

‘5G - A Practical Approach’, the Cambridge Wireless event which took place at Deloitte's London office on 3rd February, asked whether 5G is possible by 2022, and explored the true feasibility of 5G technologies. 5G is another ambitious wireless industry milestone, creating much debate and driving billions of pounds of R&D funding, in the hope of keeping to the rhythm of ten year leaps; 1G in 1981, 2G in 1991, 3G in 2001 and 4G in 2012.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced that it will exhibit at the Wearable Technologies Conference 2015, 2nd and 3rd February in Munich. The company will present ultra-small solutions for wearable applications including sensors and application processors, wireless charging, Bluetooth comms, fast data transfer using TransferJet, memory and LED devices.

At Embedded World 2015, LPRS will be collaborating with ESL Smart Solutions, its new IoT cloud services partner. LPRS will have a model stairlift in action, as a practical demonstration of the use of the platform, showing the value of live data for alarm and predictive maintenance purposes being available to OEMs via the cloud.

RFID transponder chip enables IoT applications
imec demonstrated an ultra-low power RFID transponder chip at the IEDM 2014, which took place from 15th to 17th December in San Francisco, California. The chip operates at 1V voltage and is manufactured on plastic film using TFT. The company's chip is, therefore, suitable for item level RFID tagging, body area networks and environmental monitoring, which require remote autonomy, and thinness, flexibility and robustness.

Smart home system alerts families of the unusual

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2015, which takes place from 6th to 9th January in Las Vegas, Nevada, GreenPeak Technologies will be exhibiting Real Life Smart Home applications. The company will be situated in Sands, at booth 70235. Among the products on display is the Family Lifestyle System, which learns how a person or a family lives in their home, what they like to do and when, and then monitors their movements via unobtrusive sensors to send alerts if something happens out of the ordinary.
