Lantiq has announced the availability of a joint reference platform with Intel for fixed LTE Broadband Router designs, offering up to 300 Mbps using Intel’s latest Cat6 capable LTE platform. The co-developed reference platform combines the Intel XMM 7260 LTE communications platform with Lantiq’s GRX330 Communications Processor and perfectly addresses the growing market demand for fixed 4G/LTE broadband services.

Key Features of the new fixed LTE Reference Design:

•    An Intel designed M.2 module based on the Intel XMM 7260 platform delivers LTE-Advanced features  including flexible carrier aggregation - up to 40Mhz with support for up to 23 CA combinations in one SKU – and category 6 speeds (300 Mbps theoretical peak  downlink speeds).
•    The 7260 also provides global communications, supporting more than 30 3GPP bands (21 bands simultaneous in a single SKU) and global network standards (LTE FDD/TDD, WCDMA/HSPA+, TD-SCDMA/TD-HSPA/EDGE).
•    The Lantiq GRX330 communications processor offers a full Gigabit Ethernet router design, using  a dedicated acceleration engine to maximize Wi-Fi throughput, while keeping the CPU available for other networking and application tasks
•    The joint solution broadband gateway reference design delivers optimized system performance  with up to 300 Mbps WAN to LAN throughput

Horst Pratsch, Head Product Line Modems & Modules, Intel Mobile and Communications Group: “The fixed LTE router market is a rapidly growing segment. Together with Lantiq, we’re providing Internet Service Providers a fast track for delivering leading edge-technology with great performance to their subscribers. LTE is a key focus for Intel and, together with Lantiq, we’re expanding our LTE product offerings into new segments.”

Dirk Wieberneit, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Broadband Business Unit: “Internet Home Users are always hungry for higher data rates. With the announced joint LTE Cat6 Gateway design, Lantiq and Intel meet this ever growing demand for more data. Lantiq has a strong footprint in Broadband Gateways and the fixed LTE router market segment and we believe customers can strongly benefit from the this new solution.“

Jeff Heynen, Principal Analyst, Infonetics Research: “We are already seeing early shipments of fixed LTE gateways in emerging markets, as well as among rural providers where fixed broadband services are either cost-prohibitive to deploy or regulatory issues prevent local loop unbundling. We expect the market for these devices to continue to grow rapidly as LTE networks get rolled out globally.”

Lantiq will demonstrate the joint reference design during Computex 2014.
