Silicon Labs has introduced the next generation of its Wireless Gecko platform, Series 2, designed to make IoT products more powerful, efficient and reliable. Building on the RF and multiprotocol capabilities of the Wireless Gecko portfolio, Series 2 delivers the most versatile and scalable IoT connectivity platform. The initial Series 2 products include small-form-factor System-on-a-Chip (SoC) devices with a dedicated security core and an on-chip radio delivering 2.5X the wireless range of competing solutions.

Silicon Labs’ commercial, industrial and retail customers can enhance their location-based services, using the direction finding feature added to Bluetooth in version 5.1 of the Bluetooth Core Specification.

The voice-assistant XiaoAi smart alarm clock serves as a gateway to control smart Bluetooth mesh lights through voice commands.

Silicon Labs has released the industry’s first comprehensive network performance results based on large-scale, multicast testing of Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth mesh software. Each mesh networking protocol presents characteristics and advantages, depending on the use case and end application. All testing was conducted at Silicon Labs’ Boston design center using the company’s Wireless Gecko SoC platform to eliminate the device itself as a variable in testing the mesh protocols.

Two new Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD) families have been released by Silicon Labs, delivering what the company claims to be best-in-class integration and efficiency for a range of IoT applications. Silicon Labs’ Si3406x and Si3404 families include all necessary high-voltage discrete components on a single PD chip.
