NEC Corporation has announced the provision of radio units (RU) for 5G base station equipment to NTT DOCOMO. NEC began shipping three types of small-cell RU that support the 3.7, 4.5 and 28GHz bands and are compliant with O-RAN fronthaul interface specifications.

NEC Corporation has announced the successful transmission of live 8K video using 5G at an international tennis tournament recently held in Paris, France. High-definition video transmission test utilising 5G
Network technology specialist, NEC Corporation has contributed to a high-definition video transmission test utilising 5G with a high-speed train, conducted by NTT Communications, NTT DOCOMO and TOBU RAILWAY through the provision of a 5G base station. This test was conducted in Kasukabe City, Japan, using a train on the Tobu Skytree Line from December 17th to 21st, 2018.

Broadband availability expanded in Sweden
Broadband availability in Mossberg, Sweden, has been successfully expanded by NEC Corporation and NEC Scandinavia, through the installation of the iPASOLINK EX-Advanced for Alingsas Energi. This is reportedly the first time that a 10Gbps ultra-high speed wireless point-to-point link with a millimetre wave frequency band of 80GHz has been deployed in Sweden.

Simultaneous digital beamforming supports 5G communications
With a massive-element active antenna base station system that supports a 28GHz band for 5G communications, NEC has announced the successful transmission of digital beamforming. This is the first time simultaneous beamforming transmission (four multi-user MIMO) from a single massive-element active antenna system (AAS) to four terminals has succeeded. In this test, NEC achieved a 3.1Gbps cell throughput by applying a frequency bandwidth of 300MHz.

KT and NEC test 5G solution using E-band spectrum

NEC announced the successful completion of a PoC trial with KT for a 5G wireless backhaul solution that utilizes E-Band spectrum (70-80GHz). The PoC was conducted at Phoenix Park Ski World in PyeongChang, South Korea, using KT's commercial mobile network infrastructure. KT aims to launch 5G trial services in 2018. This PoC is based on a collaboration agreement in the field of 5G networks signed between KT and NEC in August 2015.

MWC 2016: Massive-element antenna aimed at 5G base stations

A prototype of an A4-sized massive-element Active Antenna System (AAS) for 5G small cell base stations was demonstrated at Mobile Wold Congress by NEC. The low-SHF band-compatible AAS combines the antenna and RF components through the use of a newly developed high-density printed circuit board and an IC that integrates the high radio frequency circuit with the digital circuit, achieving the practical compact size.

NEC Technologies Double Communications Speeds Between Wireless Devices

NEC Corporation has developed electromagnetic noise suppression technologies that improve the reception of antennas by as much as 10 times for high-speed wireless communications devices using internal printed circuit boards with NEC's independently developed artificial materials. These technologies improve the transmission performance of wireless devices and enable high-speed communications that are up to 2 times faster than that of devices without these technologies.
