Dual wideband mixer enables 5G wireless access
Linear Technology introduces the LTC5566, a new wideband, high dynamic range dual channel mixer with integrated programmable variable gain IF amplifiers. This dual mixer has a very wide, 300MHz to 6GHz input frequency range, specifically optimised and with extensive characterisation at the emerging 3.6GHz and 4.5GHz 5G bands, as well as the established 4G bands. Moreover, the device supports bandwidths up to 400MHz to meet the needs of the growing sub-6GHz 5G wireless access equipment.

These are systems on a chip with aggressive power saving schemes, such as shutting down power to idle functions. SmartMesh IP wireless networks expand to address industrial IoT
Linear Technology’s SmartMesh IP wireless sensor network (WSN) product line has expanded to address the growing needs of industrial IoT applications. New capabilities include the SmartMesh VManager networking software, which seamlessly increases the mesh network capacity to thousands of nodes. The new Blink mode, an ultralow power roaming node capability, reduces average current consumption of wireless sensor nodes to less than 3µA.

A high linearity I/Q demodulator with more than 1GHz, -1dB flatness bandwidth, the LTC5586, has been introduced by Linear Technology. The device supports next-gen 5G wireless infrastructure equipment such as DPD (Digital Predistortion Correction) receivers for base stations, microwave backhaul and Software-Defined Radios (SDR), as well as other broadband receiver applications.

The LTC5589 is powered by a single 2.7 to 3.6V supply and draws only 29.5mA current. According to the manufacturer, this is 50% lower power consumption than other solutions.

Wideband mixer delivers IF bandwidth from DC to 6GHz
The LTC5548, a double balanced mixer that operates either as an up- or downconverter with a wide frequency range from 2 to 14GHz, has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC5548 features integrated balun transformers at the RF and LO ports, providing 50Ω match from 2 to 13.6GHz and from 1 to 12GHz at each port, respectively, while enabling single-ended operation.

Expanding its offerings in wireless battery charging, Linear Technology has announced the LTC4123 which combines a 30mW wireless receiver with a constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger for NiMH batteries. An external resonant LC tank connected to the LTC4123 enables the IC to receive power wirelessly from an alternating magnetic field generated by a transmit coil.

A family of ultra-low jitter 1.8GHz clock distribution chips has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC6954 has three independent outputs, each with its own divider and phase delay. With less than 20fsRMS additive jitter over the 12kHz to 20MHz bandwidth, the LTC6954 minimises the amount of introduced noise while dividing and distributing its input clock.

Linear has introduced a high temperature RF Schottky peak power detector that operates from 600MHz to 15GHz, and has ultrafast detection response time of 7ns from a pulsed RF signal. The LTC5564H has an on-chip fast latchable comparator with a total detection and propagation delay of 9ns, response times which enable RF and microwave applications that slower devices cannot support.
