Global mobile satellite communications provider, Inmarsat, has agreed to enter into a strategic partnership with Pessl Instruments, a provider of advanced agriculture technology solutions, to become its sole connectivity and platforms provider. The partnership promises to speed up the adoption of IoT in the agricultural sector by making it possible for customers to take advantage of IoT anywhere on the planet.

Duo develop comprehensive global IoT network
In order to enable Inmarsat to deliver a holistic connectivity solution for IoT technology, the company has announced the formation of a new strategic partnership with international telecommunications provider JT Group (formerly Jersey Telecom). The global network will combine Inmarsat’s existing satellite communication infrastructure and cellular data provided by JT. This will enable Inmarsat’s customers to access a global connectivity network from a single provider to deliver the next-gen of IoT technology.

According to independent research commissioned by Inmarsat, energy companies will struggle to derive the maximum value from the Internet of Things (IoT) without access to radically improved, reliable, high-speed connectivity. The study found that while the overwhelming majority of energy companies are in the process of deploying or developing IoT solutions, low rates of connectivity are preventing them from realising the full benefits that IoT can deliver.

IoT tech brings smart metering to rural locations
Bordering the western branch of the Tennessee River and often referred to as the gateway to Middle Tennessee is Benton County. Aside from the city of Camden, the only other largely populated areas are the agrarian communities of Big Sandy and Holladay. The county’s electricity requirements are met by Benton County Electric System (BCES), whose 38 employees work to deliver power to more than 10,000 customers. BCES’s philosophy is to offer fair and equitable rates for all.

According to global research findings published by Inmarsat, IoT has become the leading technology for digital transformation and is the number one priority for 92% of organisations. The Inmarsat Research Programme study focusing on the enterprise application of the Internet of Things (IoT) revealed that machine learning (38%), robotics (35%), and 3D printing (31%) were also key requirements for effectively delivering digital transformation for business.

A Smart Cities Education Programme has been kicked-off by Inmarsat, a provider of global mobile satellite communications services. The programme features a range of initiatives designed to educate and empower the next generation of students and entrepreneurs in Africa. It has been launched initially in Rwanda but will be replicated in other countries in the continent, and aims to accelerate the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) and smart city solutions, providing the foundations for a more sustainable future.
