Altera has joined the Industrial Internet Consortium, a collaborative industry organisation facilitating development of a global IoT ecosystem.  Altera is working alongside the consortium on technical roadmaps to build the Industrial Internet, a network of intelligent devices and sensors between which data can be exchanged via different connectivity protocols to drive productivity across a range of end-market applications.

Altera & China Mobile demonstrate virtualised C-RAN platform for 5G
At the Mobile World Congress 2015, Altera and China Mobile have jointly demonstrated a Centralised/Coordinated/Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) platform targeting next-gen virtualised 5G wireless networks. This approach will dramatically improve the user experience at the edge of cells, achieving much higher channel capacity and spectrum efficiency, reduce the network power consumption and support flexible and agile network deployments.

Multi-standard SDR platform takes centre stage at MILCOM

At the Military Communications Conference (MILCOM) 2014, Altera and Lime Microsystems demonstrated a multi-standard SDR platform. Based on Lime’s field-programmable RF (FP-RF) chip and Altera's FPGAs and Enpirion PowerSoCs, the platform enables engineers to design radio that can receive and transmit a range of different radio protocols (or waveforms), depending on the software used.

Agreement to promote programmable solutions for wireless networks
An agreement has been struck between Lime Microsystems and Altera to develop and promote programmable solutions for a broad range of broadband wireless markets. The Strategic Cooperation Agreement seeks to develop optimised FPRF transceivers, digital RF and baseband solutions which will enable designers to lower power, reduce overall costs, and shorten time-to-market. In addition, the agreement hopes to enable the customisation of designs for key wireless infrastructure, enterprise, military, industrial, test and medical applications. As part of the agreement, Altera has also made an equity investment in Lime Microsystems.

5Gbps microwave backhaul solution optimises 4G networks

Based on the company's industry-leading FPGAs, as well as QAM modem IP cores from Escape Communications, Altera has announced high-performance, cost-effective and scalable microwave backhaul solutions. These address traditional microwave backhaul markets (6-42GHz) and emerging applications in the E-band (70/80GHz) and V-band (60GHz) all-outdoor radio (ODR) markets.

Altera expands its FPGA-based solutions targeting smart energy systems with a High-availability Seamless Redundancy and Parallel Redundancy Protocol reference design targeting smart grid substation automation equipment. Developed jointly with Flexibilis Oy the IEC 62439-3-compliant reference design includes Flexibilis Redundant Switch intellectual property implemented on an Altera low-power, low-cost Cyclone-class FPGA or Cyclone V SoC.

RF Design Made Fast & Easy with the Arria V FPGA RF Development Kit

At IMS 2012, Altera and TI introduced a complete RF development kit that eases RF prototyping for systems based on Altera's 28-nm Arria V FPGAs. he modular Arria V FPGA RF Development Kit includes all the hardware and software needed for RF transmit, receive and digital pre-distortion feedback, reducing the amount of time needed to design and verify RF systems, such as wireless base stations, remote radio heads, and military radio and intelligence equipment, from months to weeks.
