CEVA's RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart 4.2 IP platform has been fully certified by the Bluetooth SIG. Offering the lowest power consumption and most advanced feature set of any Bluetooth 4.2 IP available, the platform addresses the growing need for ubiquitous wireless connectivity in a broad range of ultra-low power connected devices such as wearables, health and fitness sensors, beacons, the smart home and other devices that comprise the IoT.

This latest RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart 4.2 IP platform has already been widely licensed and builds on the highly successful previous generations of RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart 4.1 and 4.0 platforms which have shipped in tens of millions of devices to date from licensees including Atmel, Dialog Semiconductor and NXP. In addition to Bluetooth Smart 4.2, the RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart Ready 4.2 ('Dual Mode') and WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac connectivity IP platforms, are also broadly licensed and can be seamlessly integrated for customers requiring multiple wireless standards in their product designs. The platforms incorporate a smart co-existence interface which handles WiFi/Bluetooth traffic arbitration to avoid interference and are in production with some of the industry’s leading IoT players who standardise on CEVA’s RivieraWaves Connectivity IPs.

The RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart 4.2 IP is comprised of a hardware baseband controller, a full protocol stack from Link Layer up to GAP/GATT and a comprehensive set of Services and Profiles. A Bluetooth Smart modem can be provided for customers designing their own radio. The RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart 4.2 IP is fully compliant with all Bluetooth Smart 4.2 required and optional features, including Data Length Extension, Secure Connection, Enhanced Privacy and Scatternet Operation. It is the 2nd gen RivieraWaves Bluetooth Smart IP with the full capability to simultaneously support all Central and Peripheral roles, handling several master and slave links in parallel.

The RivieraWaves Bluetooth platforms incorporate a flexible RF interface to accommodate each customer’s selected RF solution. In addition, CEVA has partnered with RF IP providers including CSEM, Catena, Maxscend and others to offer low power RF solutions that are compliant with RivieraWaves Bluetooth platforms. These RF IPs are available in a number of different foundries and process nodes, offering customers a broad choice of RF options for their specific requirements.

Aviv Malinovitch, Vice President and General Manager, Connectivity business unit, CEVA, commented: "We are delighted to extend our industry leadership in connectivity IP with our qualification of the most advanced Bluetooth Smart 4.2 IP platform available. Our IP underwent the latest and most stringent qualification process to achieve certification, providing the utmost confidence to our customers deploying our Bluetooth technology in their next-gen products.”
