Joining well-known international consumer, industrial and technology organisations such as Schneider Electric, Bosch and SMA, Murata has become a member of the EEBus smart home connectivity initiative. The initiative aims to facilitate the link between networking standards and energy management capabilities of the smart grid by bringing partners together.

Enabling the access from a smartphone or tablet to the myriad of appliances and devices within the home, a gateway system is a key part of any smart home. Users can access from either the local network or the cloud, benefiting from the reduction of power consumption by monitoring each connected appliance. As wireless connectivity will be a fundamental component of such a gateway, Murata has already developed a small gateway solution that will support the EEBus standards.

“Making the smart home a reality heavily depends on integrating all connected devices and applications to the smart grid. This needs not only agreed standards but also collaboration by appliance and equipment manufacturers," said Rui Ramalho, Product Manager, Connectivity Modules, Murata. "Our joining of the EEBus initiative gives recognition that Murata values the progress they have made and our wish to actively participate in the future.”

"With the support of a global company, whose solutions are already part of many smart products, we are able to take a decisive step towards penetrating the market with the EEBus approach," added Til Landwehrmann, Managing Director, EEBus Initiative e.V.
