5G-HD WiFi platform suits next-gen enterprises

Broadcom Limited has announced a dual-channel 5GHz WiFi access point platform designed to enable enterprise and public venue operators to optimise performance for all connected devices. The Broadcom 5G-HD platform is built on the BCM49408 quad-core CPU, enabling client devices that are 5GHz 11ac-capable to maintain the fastest possible speeds by eliminating performance degradation that occurs when slower client devices share traditional single channel 5GHz Wi-Fi access points.

KT and NEC test 5G solution using E-band spectrum

NEC announced the successful completion of a PoC trial with KT for a 5G wireless backhaul solution that utilizes E-Band spectrum (70-80GHz). The PoC was conducted at Phoenix Park Ski World in PyeongChang, South Korea, using KT's commercial mobile network infrastructure. KT aims to launch 5G trial services in 2018. This PoC is based on a collaboration agreement in the field of 5G networks signed between KT and NEC in August 2015.

Communication between vehicles in a 5G world
Researchers from the Universitat Politècnica de València have devised and configured a the latest 5G radio access system for intervehicular communication. The system is intended to improve road safety in a future scenario where 5G technologies are the norm. A continuation of the METIS project, METIS-II is an international project funded by the European Commission under Horizon2020 to research the efficient integration and use of various 5G technologies and components.

Company completes field trial for its 5G system

SK Telecom has announced that it, together with Samsung Electronics, had successfully tested its 5G system at 28GHz in the outdoor environment. 5G Millimeter Wave technologies applied to the test include transmitter, receiver and antenna technologies designed to effectively transmit radio signals in the 28GHz band, as well as 3D beamforming, which is the key technology that compensates radio propagation path loss in the higher frequency bands caused by the short wavelengths of millimeter waves and high atmospheric attenuation.

Multiple antenna technology, referred to as MIMO, is already used in many Wi-Fi routers and 4G cellular phone systems.
