When paired with the company’s 2.4GHz low power RF solutions for ZigBee, 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN and Bluetooth low energy networks, the SimpleLink CC2592 range extender from TI provides up to a seven times improvement in range. The first launched pairing is the CC2592 with the SimpleLink ZigBee CC2538 wireless MCU to speed time to market of ZigBee-enabled equipment.

This combined solution benefits from -101dBm sensitivity and +20dBm output power, which raises the link budget by 17dB and equates to up to a seven times range improvement. As a low cost, industrial temperature solution, the CC2592 offers extended range for a variety of applications including gateways, electric and gas meters, home and building automation, lighting, safety and security systems. Additionally, the SimpleLink CC2592 range extender is a highly integrated solution with small external BOM, which reduces cost, simplifies layout and allows for smaller end-equipment form factors.

Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +125°C, the CC2592 is suitable for low and high temperature environments. This enables more reliable lighting and industrial products. By requiring fewer passive devices in the BOM, the SimpleLink range extender is easier to layout, enables a smaller form factor for end device products and provides lower BOM costs.

Supplied in a 16-pin 4x4mm QFN package, the SimpleLink CC2592 range extender is available for $1.55 (USD) in 100 unit quantities. TI also offers to CC2538-CC2592EMK evaluation kit for $99 (USD).
