RFaxis today announced that it’s starting volume production of multiple products in the company's patented RF Front-end IC (RFeIC) portfolio. The RFX8050x and RFX8051x family of RFeICs will start shipping in volume in Q3 2013.
Developed and manufactured in the industry's most cost-effective bulk CMOS process, these unique single-chip/single-die RFeICs deliver state-of-the-art RF performance for the latest IEEE 802.11ac standard, and provide WLAN ODMs/OEMs with pin-compatible, alternative 5GHz RF front-end solutions at significantly reduced prices.

By bringing the RFX8050x and RFX8051x family of products to the exploding 5GHz 802.11ac market, we can now declare the coming-of-age of our single-chip/single-die CMOS RFeIC technology,” said Mike Neshat, chairman and CEO of RFaxis. “As Wi-Fi rapidly migrates to 802.11ac, evident in the latest Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphone, there is urgent requirement for innovative and disruptive RF Front-end solutions that are exceptional in RF performance, but yet extremely cost effective. With our disruptive and patented CMOS RFeICs, we have reached the RF front-end Holy Grail which completely satisfies all the stringent requirements of our reference design partners as well our global ODM and OEM customer base.

The RFX8050x family of products, housed in an ultra-compact 2.5x2.5x0.45mm 16-pin Quad-Flat Non-Lead package, the industry's smallest RF front-end solution today, provides complete functionality for 5GHz 802.11ac operation, including a high-efficiency linear power amplifier, a low noise amplifier, a transmit/receive antenna switch, a directional-coupler based power detector, harmonic filters and all associated RF matching and decoupling. Designed to support direct battery operation and featuring a low-current, high-efficiency mode, the RFX8050x offers the best-in-class RF solution on the market today for Smartphones and other mobile connectivity platforms that seek the best combination of size, range of operation, receive sensitivity, battery life, as well as the lowest bill-of-materials (BOM) cost.

The RFX8051x family of products provides complete 5GHz 802.11ac RF front-end functions in a 3x3x0.55mm 16-pin QFN package. At 3.3V power supply, these RFeICs deliver 30dB gain and up to +16dBm linear output power with extremely low EVM of -35dB for 802.11ac MCS9/VTH80 modulation signals. The RFX8051x family of products is pin-compatible with RF front-end modules offered by incumbent vendors.
