u-blox announces the IT530M, a surface-mount, parallel GPS/GLONASS receiver. Together with u-blox’ line of recently announced u-blox 7 multi-GNSS modules, the company’s ultra-compact positioning module portfolio now addresses all positioning and navigation requirements.

“The new IT530M positioning module expands our portfolio to include support for GPS and GLONASS navigation satellite systems in parallel. This is an important development for our customers, as it can enhance position availability in areas of adverse reception or at high latitudes such as in the polar regions of Russia,” said Thomas Nigg, VP of Product Marketing at u-blox. “In contrast, the previously announced u‑blox 7 module family supports sequential GPS or GLONASS reception, bringing down power consumption to the absolute minimum. This gives our customers the choice of selecting the receiver most appropriate for their application.”

The IT530M features a small foot print, low power consumption, and sophisticated interference suppression, ensuring maximum performance even in GPS-hostile environments. The 9.6 x 9.6 mm module is pin-compatible with Fastrax’ IT530 modules, which allows for easy upgrade from existing designs.

The IT530M is the result of u-blox’ recent acquisition of Fastrax, now a wholly owned subsidiary of u-blox.

The IT530M will be available for sampling in Dec 2012.
