Integrated Device Technology today announced the industry’s first low-power quad 16-bit digital-to-analog converter featuring the JESD204B high-speed serial interface. IDT’s new quad DAC enables wide bandwidth support and eases board routing requirements in multi-carrier broadband wireless applications.
The DAC165xQ is a quad 16-bit 1.5 Gsps DAC with 750 Msps input data rate, enabling wide bandwidth support for use across various base station transceiver platforms. The integrated 10 Gbps JESD204B interface improves system performance and greatly simplifies routing and PCB stack-up by replacing 32 matched differential lane pairs (common with traditional interfaces) with up to eight high-speed differential lanes. The DAC165xQ supports all popular wireless standards including MC-GSM with a wide spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR = 85 dBc typ) and low noise spectral density (NSD = -162 dBm/Hz typ) for improved signal quality.

“Our new quad 16-bit DAC is a demand-driven extension of our acclaimed dual 16-bit DAC announced last year,” said Christian Kermarrec, vice president and general manager of Wireless Systems at IDT. “Building upon our leading portfolio of wireless communication solutions, the DAC165xQ complements our RF, data compression, RapidIO, and timing solutions to provide a comprehensive system-solution. IDT is the only company to offer this level of performance, integration, and features – empowering BTS manufacturers to make large strides in system innovation.”

IDT’s JESD204B-enabled DAC integrates two complex numerically controlled oscillators for intermediate frequency mixing, a low noise bypass-able integrated phase-locked loop, and various RF Mute modes to maximize flexibility and optimize system cost. In addition, it features harmonic clocking and deterministic latency to support beam-forming via multi-device-synchronization. This enables multiple DAC output streams to be sample-level synchronized and phase-coherent for coordination at the system level. Additional applications include communication systems based on LTE, LTE-A, LTE-TDD, W-CDMA, LMDS/MMDS, point-to-point microwave backhaul, high-definition video broadcast production equipment, automated test equipment, and direct digital synthesis instruments.

Product Availability
The IDT DAC1658Q and DAC1653Q are currently sampling to qualified customers and are available in a 10 mm x 10 mm 72-pin HLA package. The DAC1658Q is a high-output common mode voltage version (2.8 to 3.0 V), and the DAC1653Q is a low-output common mode voltage version (0.25 to 0.5 V) for easy pairing with a wide range of IQ modulators. Pin compatible dual-output devices are also available from IDT.
