CEVA has announced that its RivieraWaves Surf IP platform has achieved Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac status from the Wi-Fi Alliance. Offering the lowest die size and power consumption of any Wi-Fi 802.11ac IP available, the RivieraWaves Surf IP platform addresses the growing need for ubiquitous wireless connectivity in a broad range of mobile, consumer electronic and IoT devices such as smartphones, tablets, action cameras, drones and more.

CEVA will be demonstrating its portfolio of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity IPs, including the RivieraWaves Surf platform, in its private meeting suite at CES 2016, 6th-9th January, 2016.

The RivieraWaves Surf IP platform is available in two flavors, namely 802.11ac 1x1 and 802.11ac MU-MIMO 2x2. It is part of the widely deployed wireless connectivity portfolio offered by CEVA under the RivieraWaves brand, which also includes optimised solutions spanning from very high performance 802.11ac 4x4 right down to very low power 802.11n and Bluetooth Smart & Smart Ready IP.

Aviv Malinovitch, Vice President and General Manager, CEVA's Connectivity business unit, stated: "We are delighted to extend our industry leadership in connectivity IP with the certification of our RivieraWaves Surf IP platform for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac. Customers integrating a high value function like Wi-Fi require low risk. This certification coupled with the unique ability to perform 'at-speed' comprehensive real-life system testing at FPGA prototype stage is key to providing confidence in success.”

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED provides interoperability and connectivity to meet the needs of a variety of applications and ensures the best user experience for end products,” said Kevin Robinson, VP of Marketing, Wi-Fi Alliance. “CEVA’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED ac RivieraWaves Surf IP platform offers a solution for semiconductors and OEMs looking to add Wi-Fi connectivity and successfully certify their own products.”

The RivieraWaves Surf Wi-Fi IP platform is composed of a MAC subsystem which is comprised of (i) an RTL-based hardware platform incorporating either a SISO or MIMO capable modem along with radio control and digital front end circuitry, (ii) ThinMAC and FullMAC Wi-Fi software protocol stacks. The software stacks are easily portable to any common 32-bit embedded CPU. Supporting the most advanced 802.11ac features, the RivieraWaves Surf IP platform is the only Wi-Fi 802.11ac IP that runs at speed on a FPGA, thus facilitating comprehensive real-life system testing of customer designs prior to chip tape-out.

The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP platforms incorporate a flexible RF interface to accommodate each customer’s selected RF solution, including a unique high performance and software configurable AGC/CCA mechanism which can be adjusted to match the characteristics of the chosen RF. In addition, CEVA has partnered with RF IP providers including Catena, Maxscend and others to offer low power RF solutions that are pre-integrated with RivieraWaves Wi-Fi IP platforms. These RF IPs are available in a number of different foundries and process nodes, offering customers a broad choice of RF options for their specific requirements.
