Texas Instruments announced the SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 BoosterPack. The new Wi-Fi BoosterPack is powered by the SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 module from TI, which offers simplified Wi-Fi connectivity for microcontroller -based systems. Working with both the MSP430 and Tiva C Series MCU LaunchPad evaluation kits, the CC3000 BoosterPack quickly gets designs started for a wide variety of MCU-based home automation, health and fitness and machine to machine applications.
Since the new BoosterPack is based on TI’s SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 module, it benefits from features including reduced development time, lower manufacturing costs, less board space, easier certification, and minimal required RF expertise. Armed with TI’s unique SmartConfig™ technology, the new SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 BoosterPack allows for one-step activation of multiple in-home, headless devices to get them quickly connected to the Wi-Fi network.

Support

For faster time-to-market, design engineers have access to a complete support platform through the CC3000 wiki. The wiki offers details on how to get started, hardware design information, software examples and details, test and certification tips as well as community support resources.

Availability and pricing

The SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 BoosterPack (CC3000BOOST) is available now through the TI eStore and TI authorized distributors. The BoosterPack retails for $35 USD. A CC3000 evaluation module (CC3000EM) for other TI MCU EVMs such as the MSP-EXP430FR5739 FRAM experimenter board is also available from TI.

The CC3000 BoosterPack is also being offered as a bundle on TI’s eStore with the MSP430 LaunchPad evaluation kit and will soon be available as a bundle with the Tiva C Series LaunchPad evaluation kit.

• CC3000 BoosterPack with MSP430 LaunchPad MSP-EXP430G2-CC3000BOOST for $40.99.
• CC3000 BoosterPack with the Tiva C Series LaunchPad for $43.99 coming soon.

TI’s MCU LaunchPad Ecosystem

TI’s MCU LaunchPad ecosystem provides scalable hardware and software tools to engineers of all experience levels. Since their introduction in 2010, MCU LaunchPads have become a popular evaluation platform within the design community, selling close to half a million kits. To provide greater functionality, flexibility, peripherals and scalability, BoosterPack plug-in modules extend the LaunchPad’s capabilities with LCD, LED lighting, capacitive touch, motor control, wireless connectivity and more. With three LaunchPad kits starting at less than $10, and more than 50 BoosterPacks available today or in development, TI has set the new standard for easy-to-use, low-cost MCU development ecosystems.
