HEVC set-top box SoC devices fit compact HDMI stick
Broadcom has introduced the world's first HEVC Set-Top Box (STB) SoC devices with integrated MHL 2.0. Broadcom's BCM7250 and BCM72502 chips bring full-featured set-top box functionality to compact HDMI stick and popular streaming media player box formats, allowing carriers to deliver services wirelessly anywhere in the home, while taking up less space and with fewer wires with MHL powering.

Compliant with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) 1.1 Qi specification, Integrated Device Technology's magnetic induction transmitter and receiver solutions have been selected by 4MOD Technology for its innovative 'Cube' remote control. IDT’s wireless power chips are enabling wireless charging in the remote, which allows users to control all functions of their entertainment centre, such as TV, video, music and radio, with a few simple gestures.

A GPS-enabled satellite OutDoor Unit (ODU) device, claimed to be a world first, has been released by Broadcom. To allow operators to better track the location of subscriber equipment and pinpoint subscriber's service issues in the home, the solution combines the company's BCM4551 satellite TV device with its BCM4771 GPS receiver.

PHYs offer 10G coding strength at 2.5G & 5G speeds

Supporting 2.5G and 5G Ethernet speeds, the BCM8486X series of PHYs has been released by Broadcom. Without disrupting existing cabling infrastructure, the next-gen devices provide a faster data rate over Gigabit Ethernet. According to the company, the PHYs also offer the lowest BOM, cost and power consumption on the market.

BARTEC PIXAVI has selected u-blox’s LISA-U230 3G cellular module for use in its Impact X ‘intrinsically safe smartphone’. CSA Class 1, Zone 1, IECEx and ATEX Zone 1 certified, the rugged smartphone is both explosion and waterproof. The LISA-U230 is a 6-band 3G cellular module, with a 2G fall back capability, that is designed for devices used in tough industrial and outdoor environments.
