Underwear designed to protect male fertility against the EM radiation emitted by WiFi devices has been introduced by British scientist Joseph Perkins.

The Wireless Armour underwear contains 20% of pure silver, which is woven into the fabric to act as a type of Faraday cage, shielding against 99.97% of EM radiation. This silver cotton blend, designated RadiaTex, is also anti-microbial, making the underwear particularly hygienic.

There is debate within the research community as to whether WiFi devices such as mobile phones affect male fertility. To answer this question, a team led by Dr Fiona Matthews of the University of Exeter carried out a number of studies. Before being exposed to a mobile phone, the researchers found that 50-80% of participants’ sperm was moving normally. After exposure, this dropped by an average of 8%.

The underwear, described by Richard Branson as ‘underpants for superheroes’, is available in two styles: tight-fitting or loose-fitting. There are two versions of each of these styles: a 180 model, which protects against EM radiation at the front of the body, and a 360 model, which provides protection at both the front and the back of the body. The Wireless Armour underwear is priced from £24 ($38) for the 180 model and £35 ($55) for the 360 model.
