Broadcom announces that its latest 5G WiFi XStream platform is the technology behind the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi router (R8000). Delivering up to 3.2 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) wireless speed, the Broadcom-powered Nighthawk X6 home router delivers the speed, range and bandwidth required for simultaneous connectivity of Internet of Thing (IoT) devices, interactive online gaming and seamless high definition (HD) content streaming to multiple screens.

The average household is expected to own roughly 50 Internet-connected devices by 2022, up from approximately 10 today1. As the proliferation of multiple connected devices in the home continues to rise, the home router has become a critical component in managing increasing performance and bandwidth requirements. Powered by Broadcom's 5G WiFi XStream technology, the Nighthawk X6 with six high-performance antennas and three network bands, delivers the industry's fastest combined WiFi speed and maximum wireless range available today.

Broadcom's 5G WiFi XStream technology, with SmartConnect software, automatically ensures that 802.11ac devices in the home are not sharing airtime with slower WiFi devices. This process essentially doubles the performance of all devices in the network. NETGEAR's Nighthawk X6 leverages this technology to balance network load, ensuring the best performance for each device. For example, video streaming and Internet gaming traffic can each operate on separate 5GHz bands resulting in 2x the speed of a dual band router.

"Today's connected home demands a premium router with superior performance that can deliver extraordinary throughput while recognising and allocating bandwidth according to individual device requirements," said Rahul Patel, Broadcom Senior Vice President, Wireless Connectivity. "As the first semiconductor provider to deliver the technology required to handle the most demanding wireless network load, Broadcom's 5G WiFi XStream technology is enabling leading providers such as NETGEAR to deliver the speed and performance optimised to best serve consumer needs."

"With growing consumer demand for simultaneously connecting multiple devices, streaming HD content and interactive gaming, the home WiFi network is under tremendous strain," said David Henry, NETGEAR Vice President of Product Marketing and Engineering for the Retail Business Unit. "With Broadcom's powerful 5G WiFi XStream platform, we can deliver more WiFi to more devices so our customers can enjoy faster connectivity, content streaming and gaming throughout the home, resulting in a more satisfying experience for the entire family."

Key Features of the Broadcom 5G WiFi XStream Platform

  • Five core "Penta Core" central processing unit (CPU) to maximise network capacity,
  • SmartConnect software to ensure each WiFi device operates on best frequency band,
