RAIN RFID tag works perfectly on metal surfaces
As part of its RFID range of products, Murata has announced the LXFLANMXMG-003, a RAIN RFID tag designed for use on metal components and surfaces. Previously, placing such tags on to metal has been challenging because metal surfaces reflect the signal emitted from the reader and interfere with communication between the tag and reader. To overcome this, Murata has patented various technologies that allow RFID tags to work in conjunction with metal objects.

LoRaWAN module with 'Best of Both Worlds' capability
The results of Murata's collaboration with both STMicro and SigFox to port the SigFox stack to co-exist alongside the LoRa stack on Murata’s small form factor Type ABZ LoRaWAN module has been announced. With this feature Murata has extended the module’s capability for providing both LoRa and SigFox capabilities worldwide from a single hardware platform. This approach allows customers to decide which network technology serves the application best depending on location, service requirements and cost.

Murata has introduced the DMH series which it claims to be the world's lowest profile supercapacitor. The product is designed for peak power assist duties in wearable applications and various other devices. Murata’s DMHA14R5V353M4ATA0 supercapacitor has a low profile design and at 0.4mm thick it is suitable for use in the thinnest devices. Its footprint is 20x20mm.

Compact LPWAN wireless module supports LoRaWAN
Murata has announced a compact low cost LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) wireless module that supports the LoRaWAN long range wireless protocol. This standalone compact module measures just 12.5x11.6x1.76mm, is constructed in a metal shielded package and comprises a Semtech SX1276 ultra long range spread spectrum wireless transceiver and an ST STM32L0 series ARM Cortex M0+ 32 bit MCU.

Based around the TI CC3200 and CC3100 SimpleLink chipsets, two 2.4GHz IEEE802.11 b/g/n compliant wireless modules have been announced by Murata. The Type 1JP and Type1JQ modules, measuring 13.2x21.45x2.65mm, significantly ease incorporating wireless internet connectivity to a host of embedded applications and especially IoT designs.

Murata has announced the availability of a new class of Wireless modules. The DNT Series offers high performance and low price-point for applications demanding wide range and low latency. The DNT 2.4GHz series: DNT24 and DNT2400 incorporate frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) to deliver better immunity to interference, which is critical in the more crowded bands such as 2.4 GHz WiFi.

Electronics manufacturer Murata is working on a new project to offer an incentive for people to keep in shape and take advantage of the plethora of fitness trackers that are now available. Consumers can now earn ‘Bitwalking’ dollars where a phone application counts the number of steps an individual takes and converts it (around 10,000 steps = 1BW$), for the user to spend as they wish with retailers, sportswear brands etc.
