Over 8bn connected devices globally, says IHS

IHS has revealed findings from its Connected Device Market Monitor report which examines key trends and data for global devices, OTT and pay TV multiscreen markets. As of year-end 2015, the world now contains 8.1bn connected smartphones, tablets, personal computers, TVs, TV-attached devices and audio devices. On average, across the globe, this device base equates to an astounding four devices per household.

European optical network equipment spending up 8% YOY

Market research firm IHS has released vendor market share and preliminary analysis from its Q2 2015 IHS Infonetics Optical Network Hardware report. According to the report, global optical network hardware revenue (WDM and SONET/SDH) grew 22% in Q2 2015 from the previous quarter, but was flat from a year ago. Europe is the only major world region that posted positive YOY growth in Q2 2015, up 8%.

Report indicates next-gen broadband coverage rise in Europe

Long-Term Evolution (LTE) coverage increased dramatically across Europe in 2013, according to a report for the European Commission compiled by IHS Technology, in cooperation with Valdani, Vicari & Associati (VVA). While there were eight countries with no LTE coverage in 2012, only Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Malta recorded no LTE availability at the end of 2013.
