Hathaway selects Broadcom's chipset for broadband in India
Broadcom has announced that Hathaway Cable and Telecom, India's largest cable broadband service provider, has selected it's chipset to power high-speed broadband. By providing data at speeds greater than 300Mbps, the DOCSIS 3.0-based chipset will enable Hathaway to expand its services to support high value interactive applications such as on-demand programming, for both residential and commercial customers.
Hathaway is the first multi-system operator to launch a high speed network, such as that of the DOCSIS 3.0, in India. According to Infonetics, operators that have upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0-based broadband gateways experienced an 85% growth in revenue in 2013 alone.
"Broadcom has been instrumental in developing the DOCSIS 3.0 standard for cable networks, enabling faster transmission speeds by adding advanced media access control capabilities," said Rich Nelson, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Broadcom. "By leveraging our DOCSIS 3.0 chipset, Hathway can dramatically expand value-added services to their subscribers, providing the enhanced entertainment experience viewers have been waiting for."
