The agreement enables RTX to use and sell Qualcomm Atheros’ Wi-Fi Alliance-certified semiconductors and extends RTX’s range of wireless offerings of standardized and custom-made solutions.
Furthermore, the cooperation between Qualcomm Atheros and RTX will expand the market for very low power devices that are Wi-Fi enabled. Examples of these new battery-powered products include thermostats, security sensors, lighting control, and personal health monitors that can all be directly connected to the Internet through standard Wi-Fi access points and Wi-Fi equipped smart phones. The partners believe that this web connectivity will drive new products and services to improve health, energy conservation, security, remote product diagnostics, and many other innovative applications.

A notable example of the agreement in action is the RTX4100: the world’s smallest fully embedded Wi-Fi module recently released by RTX in cooperation with Energy Micro and Qualcomm Atheros. The RTX4100 Wi-Fi module makes fast and easy application development of low power sensor and actuator solutions possible – enabling direct Internet connection from devices, machines and other systems.
